CWL Group is Australia’s premier geothermal exchange design and construct (D&C) contractor, providing a full turn-key service including in-house engineering, complete 3D system design, water and ground heat-exchanger installations, plant room fabrications, underfloor/hydronic heating and cooling distribution systems, and more. We provide our clients with one point of contact and a consistent high-level of workmanship across all components of the project.

We have more geothermal exchange engineering experience than any other D&C contractor in the country, with a team of engineers from North America, Europe, and Australia. More than just IGSHPA certified, our director of engineering is a licensed Professional Engineer who has been designing and installing geothermal exchange systems since 2004.

CWL Group takes pride in its work, and in knowing that whatever work is done today will stand the test of time for decades – sometimes centuries – to come. This knowledge stems from a focus on the design and construction of systems that are of the highest-quality, robust, and dependable. However for work to properly endure, it must also avoid antiquated methodologies, technologies, materials, and energy sources.

Nearly all CWL Group systems utilise heat pumps to generate heat or – when cooling – to remove heat. A heat pump avoids on-site combustion, reducing local pollution and health concerns. It may also offer safety benefits; it can replace LPG cylinders in bushfire-prone areas and eliminate risks associated with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Heat pumps can also play a key role in dramatically reducing emissions. In a January 14, 2020 article by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) titled, “How Will Natural Gas Fare in the Energy Transition”, it was stated:

“In a low-carbon world, gas must be phased out from the places where it is currently being used in space heating, water heating, or cooking.”

In the Netherlands a 2016 policy was put in place that restricts new homes from being connected to the gas-grid, and further stipulates that 170,000 houses a year must be disconnected. In the U.K., gas heating will be banned for new homes by 2025. The Victorian government has banned natural gas connections in all new homes that require a planning permit in the state from 1 January, 2024.

Heat pumps also play a key role in dramatically reducing operating costs. The running cost of the ultra-efficient heat pumps that CWL Group utilise is much lower than electric resistance heating, LPG, and even mains gas. In combination with consistently improving on-site electricity generation and energy storage options, heat pumps provide insurance against increasing energy prices by affording the client energy security.
